Governor Shapiro Visits High Steel Structures
Governor Josh Shapiro visited High Steel Structures on August 7, 2023, to highlight the work Pennsylvania-based companies are doing on the new I-95 overpass in northeast Philadelphia at Cottman Avenue.
The Governor’s visit took place a little less than two months after the fire-damaged bridge collapsed. His group was given a tour of High Steel's Lancaster fabrication facilities, where they saw the project's steel girders in fabrication and greeted our coworkers. We were joined in welcoming the Governor by Rob and Will Buckley, representing the project’s General Contractor, Buckley & Company, Inc.
In his remarks after the tour, the Governor expressed his satisfaction with the efforts of the many Pennsylvania companies participating in the project, specifically recognizing general contractor Buckley & Company, steel fabricator High Steel Structures, and steel supplier Cleveland Cliffs, all of whom had representatives at the event. The program concluded with a “beam signing ceremony” with the Governor and Lieutenant Governor signing the first steel girder completed for the project.
The Governor also complimented High Steel's efforts at workforce development through its in-house training program, High Steel University.
The Governor was accompanied by distinguished guests Lt. Governor Austin Davis, Pennsylvania State Representative Steven Mentzer, and Lancaster City Mayor Danene Sorace.
