My Career Journey at High Hotels
Wesley Hemmann has showcased his talents at High Hotels Ltd. in roles ranging from front desk attendant to his current position as sales coordinator. With many years of experience at the front desk, he used his vibrant personality to connect with guests and elevate their experience.
After studying musical theatre at Temple University and continuing to perform actively, Wesley notes, “I saw the front desk as kind of a little stage that I can perform on and give people the information they need.” Although he didn't pursue a career in musical theatre, his enthusiasm for connecting with people and creating memorable experiences is evident at High Hotels, allowing him to utilize his full range of talents and passions.
In his current role as a sales coordinator, Wesley has further developed his skills in effective communication, organization, relationship building, and problem-solving. His favorite part of the job is talking and interacting with people, which is also one of the most important aspects of being a sales coordinator. Whether it's assisting families planning a trip, business travelers seeking accommodations, or wedding parties looking for special experiences, Wesley communicates with individuals from various backgrounds to understand their specific requirements and address their needs. He states, “Providing people with what they want and need is the service I know and do well, and it is something I enjoy.”
Wesley's typical work week can vary, but Mondays are usually his busiest days after having the weekend off. He starts by attending to his emails, as a lot can happen over the weekend when hotels are at their busiest. During this time, he addresses any issues and communicates with coworkers about anything that occurred over the weekend. Throughout the week, Wesley bounces around to different locations. He begins at the Courtyard by Marriott – Lancaster on Monday morning and heads to the Hampton Inn by Hilton that afternoon. Towards the end of the week, he visits the Residence Inn by Marriott to facilitate staff meetings coordinated by the sales team. Wesley’s schedule involves a variety of tasks at multiple sites each week.
Wesley knows that working in sales can be challenging, particularly when dealing with difficult interactions and resolving issues. His advice is, “You just kind of have to take the bull by the horns, jump into the pool feet first, and be ready to talk to people and build relationships. If you do that, you can enhance their experiences and provide people with the service they are in need of.” He has learned the importance of creating a positive impression by actively listening to people and empathizing with their viewpoints to ensure he delivers the best service possible.
Working at High Hotels, Wesley finds great satisfaction and enjoyment in his role. He is grateful for the opportunities and experiences that High has provided him with and is excited to continue pursuing the work he loves every day.
